Thoughts on the election of 2008....

So, how many of you voted on Tuesday??? I did a few weeks ago absentee..but boy, the lines were long at the polls all day here in the DC Metro area! Can you believe how wonderful the turnout was? I am so excited to have seen all the younger and first time voters take part in this election. This was an historic election! I did manage to get the Washington Post for Wednesday, the day after, and I have put it away for my children and their children, etc to record that day in history.

As you can imagine, Washington is all a buzz with excitement of the Inauguration. Hotels have already raised their rates and some have even sold out! I am planning on sending a note to my congressman to see if I can get a ticket to the parade or even the actual Inauguration. That would be something to see....I am so close to the city...if only I could get there.....

Well, here's to the new President and his family..may they be blessed with good times and not so many bad....no matter who you voted for, we all need to be one in this new era...I will support my new president...

Take care,
hugs,
Debi :)

It's that time of year

Hey all and welcome to fall!! :) I can hardly believe it is already November 2! This year has flown by....

Tuesday is Election Day and I hope that all who are eligible to vote will do so...I took advantage of Virginia's early voter plan and sent in my vote a week ago! Since my work day is about 12 hours including commute to and from work, I was eligible to vote absentee and so I did! The polls here close at 7pm and I didn't think there was any way I was going to be able to get there in time to cast my vote.

Friday was Halloween and my family was in all different directions. DH, DS2 and I stayed home to pass out candy.....Dh loves Halloween, he loves to do the "scary" part of it. I, of course, love the "cute" part of it...guess who won this year?????
DH is very proud of his graveyard. He and the kids cut the wood, painted it to look like cement and even wrote some "interesting" items on the stones...He has plans to make it bigger and better next year! :)

I would like you all to meet Charlie.....He became part of our family last weekend. We rescued him from a local rescue and he is such a great dog! He is so much fun. He is very loving and all the kids really like him alot...he loves to play so Belle and Buddy have a new friend..The cats don't really seem to mind him too much and he loves to cuddle! He is about 1 year old and is a wonderful addition to our family.

Knitting wise, I have been busy...I have about 5 pairs of socks on needles now as we speak, a scarf and planning a few other things as well. I am trying to get alot done in a short amount of time...not always a good thing. I have a pair of socks almost done for a friend of mine back in California. They are done in her favorite colors, but are a bit too heavy for shoes, so she can wear them around the house...I will post pictures when they are done...

For most of my gifts this year, I am focusing on scarves. I am planning on getting some nice yarn and making some wonderful scarves for gifts. I know we can use them here in Virginia and even in California they can be used on those chilly "winter" mornings.

That's about all for now. More to come soon....Don't forget to vote on Tuesday...have a great week.

Hugs,
Debi :)

I'm Backkkkkkkkkkkk..........................

Hey I am back!!! Things here have been moving at a rapid rate and I have been so busy that I haven't had a chance to catch up on all the happenings!! I have been working at my job for about a month and I really enjoy it! The practice is great, the patient's are for the most past really nice and even the traffic doesn't bother me! I totally enjoy this job and am grateful that I am able to work and do something that I really enjoy.

The kids have all made the transition to their respective new schools and so far seem to be making the change well. DD1 has jointed the marching band...and after many nights of "I HATE THIS"... she has finally decided that marching band is pretty cool and has actually been enjoying it!!! They had a competition last weekend, and they took first place in their division!!!

DD2 has decided that she wants to knit a scarf for one of her BFFs! Such a proud moment in momma history!! Last night she picked out some yarn from Michaels, and then when we got home, I cast on and showed her a quick refresher on how to do the knit stitch...I am so, sniff, proud!! :)

DS2 has been doing great in school. He has been working hard and keeping up the great job that he began last year! I am really thankful for that!!

DD3 has begun 8th grade this year. Can't believe next year all of them will be in high school!! She has been making friends and having a good time. It doesn't hurt that the mall is only 5 minutes from my house!!!

As far as knitting is concerned, I have been busy!!

These are just one of the pairs of socks that I have been working on! They are my In-Decision socks as I just can't seem to make up my mind as to who I am voting for this year! :)
These are yet again, another pair of summery socks...The yarn is Knit Picks Coney Island. I love these colors!!!

Last night we were shopping with the family and went to Circut City and I got a new camera!! I LOVE this camera...I had had my older one for about 8 years and it was time to upgrade! DH ended up buying it for me, I had picked out the one I wanted and and was getting ready to pay for it and he ended up paying for it instead!! What a sweetheart!!!! :) I got a Nikon Coolpix S550. Awesome camera!! I have been playing with it all night and alot so far this morning. My animals are getting tired of seeing me with the camera in my hands and have begun running away from "mom's photo shoots!!!" :) I will post some pictures soon. (the socks are from the older camera)

Other things happening around the house are DH is out and about on several business trips...a few days each week for the next month or so. This is not always a good thing, though I do get alot of knitting done when he is gone, as there is no one to really talk to. Have I mentioned lately that I really LOVE my house??? Well, I really really do...it is just the most fabulous feeling to walk into the door after a day at work and know that it's my house...we went to Lowe's today and got some stones for a bedding wall along one side of the front of the house. ( I will post pictures soon) and it was a hot day. The wall looks great but tomorrow we need to get more soil for the bed and then the stones for the other bed on the other side of the front of the house. Confused? You won't be soon....I promise.

I am so excited that the new TV season starts this week. Some of my favorite shows are CSI Miami and Gray's Anatomy. Another one of my new favs wasn't renewed this fall, that was Stark. I am hoping there is a chance that it will come back in the mid season, but I have no clue. I really enjoyed that show alot.

Well, that's about all for now. I am off to the shower and then to bed. It's been a busy weekend and I have another busy week at the office.

Take care and hugs to all!
Debi :)

Updates....

Hey there,

Bet you all thought I was down for the count and not coming back up for air.....well you would be wrong... I have been out of touch with the real world for a bit due to many happenings in my house....it's time to bring you all up to speed.

First and foremost, my children who were in Tennessee visiting their Mom, are coming home tomorrow!! I am very excited. It has been 6 long weeks since I have seen them and I really do miss them!!! School starts for them in 2 weeks..so I am glad they will be home so we can go shopping and get them ready for school!!

Second, as I just mentioned, school starts in 2 weeks!!! I am excited for the kids, due to the fact that they are bored and really need to go back to school. I know when I was younger, back before there was fire, I missed school alot and was always glad to get back into the routine of going to school and seeing my friends again. This year, all my kids will be starting new schools due to the move but I am sure they will all adjust.

Next, I have a JOB!!! I know, you are all shocked and need to pick yourselves up off the floor, but I really have an honest to goodness job!! I am going to work for an Internist Dr. practice in Fairfax, about 45 minutes away and I am excited!! I start tomorrow!!! :)

Finally, and sadly, I must say the Princess, my beloved Sheltie and faithful companion of 9 years has gone. She had cancer and it had progressed so much that when I took her to the vet on the 14th, it was decided to let her rest. She was a great friend and went through alot with me. It just isn't the same without her. I think my other two dogs, especially Belle, realize that she is gone. I really miss her. The vet's office sent me to condolence cards and that means alot. I will be able to pick up her ashes in about a week. I am going to keep her with me. She made the move and I know it was hard for her. The last few weeks were tough as well, but she was a trooper. She will always remain in my heart. She was my baby.

That's about all for now.

Hugs,
Debi

Welcome Home

Well, we are finally in Virginia! We got here on the 27th but didn't get our computer internet up until today! Long story. Anyway, we are here. I love my house, I love the area, it is so pretty, and I am slowly, very slowly learning my way around here.

No pictures today, will post some when I get some taken. We have spent the last week unloading the truck, unpacking boxes and putting together all the new furnature we are buying!! (I LOVE IKEA). So, internet time is low but hey I am getting some knitting done. That is a good thing.

Many projects we are working on in the house, and will post pictures as we get them. For now, I just wanted to say, Hi, I am here!!

Take care.
Hugs,
Debi :)

New Beginnings

Well, today marks several new beginnings in my life. As I mentioned before, my eldest son, has just turned 18 and decided to move out on his own. This is all happening as we are getting ready to move across the country from California to Virginia. Well, it has happened. Yesterday, he moved his stuff out and today he came back to the house and said good bye. Talk about a tough moment. I tried hard not to cry but I did. There is a saying that goes,

"If you love something set it free
If it returns back to you it is yours
If is doesn't, it never was".

I hope he returns back to me eventually. I already miss him. I had him for 18 years. I know he has to move on, but I wasn't ready for that to happen just yet. Truthfully, are we, as moms, ever ready for the children to move on????

We finally finished our packing and cleaning of our house here in California. Tomorrow morning, bright and early, we leave for Virginia. It is exciting as well as heart breaking. I have made some good friends here in California, and will miss them terribily. I know we will all try to stay in touch. I look forward to our new life in Virginia. I have met several people through the internet from the area and am really excited to get there. My DH and I will have our first "real" home (purchased) together and we will begin again as we always do.

My baby, Princess, is doing ok. She has not shone any new symptoms since her diagnosis. We are hoping for a few more fabulous months with her. She is a special girl in my book.

Remember, tell the ones you care for how you feel, they need to know as much as you need to tell them. Take some time to smell the roses and see the view...don't keep rushing all the time. Life is fast, slow it down once in a while.

Take care.

Debi :)

Updates and such

Hey everyone!!

Just wanted to let you in some updates on progress and such. Things here in my house, have been a bit up in arms as of late. My whole house is in upheaval. We are in the home stretch of packing due to the trailer coming tomorrow. Rah. Today is a marathon day. We are on break now for dinner and such, but soon, will be back to work. Have I ever mentioned how much I hate the moving process?? Oh well.

My DS1 graduated on Thursday, 6/12. I am very proud. This is the first of five. Seems so unreal at times.

100_0279
Here I am with him after the graduation. Such a proud momma!!!

100_0277
Here is is with his girlfriend. She is such a cutie!! :)

Yesterday was World Wide Knit in Public Day! (Yes, It is a real thing!). One of the groups I am in had a scavenger hunt. Talk about a good time. I put my sock in so many situations and had to ask total strangers to hold my sock. No one said no and all thought I was bit off my rocker, but anyone who knows me, will attest to that. Here are some of the things that I did yesterday....

100_0289
Here I am outside the Charles Schulz museum and my sock has just met Snoopy and Woodstock.

100_0295
This is Pam Stalker, she is a cartoonist who was at the museum yesterday and has done such things as Strawberry shortcake and Reader Rabbit...what a nice person to hold my sock. :)

100_0299
I took my sock to a local yarn store, where it got to pose with an Alpaca!! Ok, so it's not real, but my sock does not know that!! :)

100_0302
Finally, this is the young man at the drive thru window at McDonalds. Yes, we even had him hold the sock, needless to say, he was bit surprised but a good sport just the same!! :)I mean, who wouldn't want to hold such a beautiful sock???

My house is also sad. My beautiful 9 year old Sheltie, Princess, has been diagnosed with nasal carcinoma. It is very rapidly moving and spreading quickly. She has not been given much time. My heart is so heavy, but I know that she will be waiting for me at the Rainbow Bridge when it is my time to pass. I love my dog and am grateful for the time we have left.

Here she is before her diagnosis, I want to remember her as the beautiful girl she is...

Well, that about it for now. We start loading the trailer tomorrow. Please remember to cherish those you love, you never know when they will leave you.

Hugs to all,
Debi :)

Moving on...

We have started packing and cleaning in anticipation for the big move. We have only 26 days left in California!! Can't believe it!! Where has the time gone?? I have had some wonderful experiences here in California.

I must say that when they say California is different, they really mean it. Not just the weather but the whole mind set of the people here. I have never seen so many Mercedes, BMW's, Audi's, Lexus' in my life than here. Even back in Connecticut there weren't that many high end cars on the roads. Even the kids going to school drive the high end cars. Whew,...

There is probably a Vet hospital on every other corner or block. I have never seen so many in one place. In the town that I live in, there are at least 6...wow, these are some of the best taken care of animals I have seen.

Allergies are very much present here in Sonoma county. My allergies have been haywire since were got here. I am hopeful that back in Virginia, they won't be as prevalent.

I have seen some great things. A while back, a friend and I went to San Francisco for the day. It was wonderful. We rode the ferry to the city and walked around. There were street performers and street vendors everywhere. We went to the famous Pier 39 and Fisherman's Warf.. too much fun..it was great day and we really enjoyed it. There are some fabulous shops in the city too..

Well, my last day at work is this Friday, the 30th. It will be bittersweet. I am so excited about the move, but I have made some really great friends here. Hopefully we will all stay in touch with each other. :)

We started packing the garage yesterday. I have been working in my old sewing room packing, sorting, organizing, etc. Then we have to tear down the walls and I have paint the whole garage, since we had painted the room green and the rest of the garage is just drywall. It's really ok, I don't mind painting that much.

Well, just wanted to check in and say hi to everyone. I have been knitting as much as possible. As I tell everyone, it is my "happy place" and there are many times mom needs her happy place so she doesn't kill anyone!!! :)

So, until next time....26 days to go.......
hugs,
Debi :)

Mother's Day

It's Mother's Day today and I hope all mothers had a fabulous day that was filled with what you wanted. I hope you all celebrated in the best way for your family! Happy day to all!!

My Mother's Day was very nice. My family gave me an adorable pink elephant (I love stuffed animals), 2 CD's and a fabulous card with some $$ for yarn shopping!!! Whooo Hoooo!!

I would like to share a few FO's that I have recently done.

This is the baby sweater I finished for a friend in DH's office. The bear is included and they thought the sweater came out great. Not too shabby for my first sweater! :)

This is my second pair of socks. I did them for a friend. The yarn is Austermann and I love the feel of this yarn. I am definitely going to have to get some for me!! :)

The next few weeks are going to be crazy!!
5/14 - we close on our house
5/29 - DD3's last day of school
5/30 - my last day of work
6/10 - DS1 turns 18
6/12 - Last day of high school and Graduation
6/16 - Trailer gets dropped at house for us to pack
6/20 - Trailer picked up and we leave for Virginia
6/27 - Trailer dropped at new house
6/30 - Trailer picked up at new house

Many, many things to happen in the next six weeks...wheeew, I am tired just thinking about it!!

I would like to share a picture of DS1 - It is his Graduation picture:

I am having a hard time believing he will be 18 on June 10 and that he graduates from High School 2 days later....this is the "child" that wants to stay behind here in California when we leave. Sometimes it really sucks to be a mom.... :)

It had to happen

Hey, well you knew it had to happen one day, right? It's been leading up to this but today I made it official. I joined the Summer of Socks knit along! I found the group and information through Ravelry and decided that I just needed to do this! You all believe me right???

This is great because I get to take all my sox on vacation and take their pictures, they are so photogenic you know, and then best of all, I have an excuse to knit all summer long, because the person who makes the most socks wins!! Yeah, a sock competition... :) To be honest, the most socks done will probably not be me, but I am going to have so much fun taking my socks pictures all across the country! Remember, I am moving from California to Virginia this summer. My dh thinks I have finally gone off the deep end, how could anyone get so excited about taking pictures of socks?? Wait and see....I have a feeling this is going to be a summer to remember for numerous reasons.

Thanks all for now. Just wanted to share my new excitement. Take care.

random thoughts

Wow, it's been a bit of a while since I last posted, sorry. Too many things happening and not enough time to digest! I ended up taking a Mental Health Day last Thursday, and did not go to class or do anything around the house....just had to power down. I am a big fan of Mental Health days....
Well, we "officially" own our house now in Woodbridge, VA. The Underwriters have approved and since that is the last hurdle, we are there. Now, we just wait for the closing, May 15 and we are home owners...if my dh and I had our way, we would be on the way there now...we are SOOOOOOOOOOO looking forward to moving....
Work has been strange. You know the type of customer who brings in their kids, under 3, becuase they have to? Well, I was one of those moms as well, but I honestly don't remember my kids behaving the way kids do now adays. This week we had several moms bring in their under 3 crowd and there were so many that I just wanted to throw out of the store!! They go through and touch EVERYTHING and whine and scream and carry one...what ever happened to the word NO!!!!! When I was younger, much younger, we were not allowed to tough anything with the threat of major punishment!!!! I am not impressed with the younger genteration....
Well, things have been moving right along...my friends are moving, one by one. The other night, I saw Barb for the last time. As much as I do it, it is still hard to say "good by".
Well, that's it for now. Just wanted to make sure that none of you thought I was forgetting you. I will do my best to keep you up dated as to our progress. Life moves pretty fast, you have to be quick to grab hold and get your share...
Until next time...

The times they are a changing...

They say the more things change the more they stay the same....hummmm what do you think? Things here have been progressing at a rapid rate. DH went to Virginia a few weeks ago, and bought a house!!!!

So what do you think?? It looks very nice and we are all very excited!! Just think of all the possibilities.

More changes happening in our house....school is out on June 12 with graduation for ds1 on June 14. Wow...he turns 18 on June 10 and I am not sure how I am going to handle this. He has decided that he does not want to move to Virginia with us. Hummmm how do you handle this? On the one hand I realize he wants to spread his wings and be an adult and on the other hand I have to wonder is he ready? Am I ready? Are we ever ready? Oh well....

We are doing the move ourselves, packing, loading, unloading, unpacking, resettling....gotta love it...at least this time, we are using ABF to move our stuff. We pack and load, they drive cross country and then we unload....wow...such a deal! :)

We are officially leaving on June 20. That is only 74 days away!!!! That may seem like a lifetime..but really it's not...so I would say the the countdown has officially begun.

I will be doing my best to post while on the road. My goal is to take my laptop with me and post at night. The kids think that I am bringing the laptop for them to use on the road because they will be so bored....they can go ahead and think that way, but they would be wrong!!! :)

In my history class, we are studying 1968 and all the happenings that year....and also how much 2008 is paraling 1968. (sorry for the spelling errors). Let's see how many similarities
we can find...
1968: Presidential election
2008: Presidential election

1968: Black leaders calling for change.
2008: Black leaders calling for change.

1968: In a controversial conflict on foreign soil.
2008: In a controversial conflict on foreign soil.

1968: Questionable leadership for the country.
2008: Questionable leadership for the country.

1968: Which direction will we go????
2008: Which direction will we go????

So, you can see it is true, the more things change, the more they seem the same.....I can only wonder what changes 2048 will bring.... :)

And the winner is.........

Well, last week was the uber fabulous Ultimate Blog Party and it was alot of fun!! I met alot of great people and am definitely looking forward to next year...Thanks again to 5 Minutes for Mom for hosting this fabulous party!

I would like to announce the winner of the $15 Jo-Ann Gift card that I was giving away last week. The winner is: PHYLLIS W!!!!!!! Whooo hoooooo, she is very excited!!

I do believe the Phyllis fainted when she found out she had won!!!! :O)

I found the information below on another web site that I visit and I thought I would pass it on to all of you...

PUT YOUR KEYS BY YOUR BEDSIDE AT NIGHT

Tell your spouse, your children, your neighbors, your parents, your Dr Office, the check out Girl at the market, everyone you run across.

Put your car keys beside your bed at night. If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. The alarm will be set off, and the horn will continue to sound until either you turn it off or the car battery dies.

This tip came from a neighborhood watch coordinator. Next time you come home for the night and you start to put your keys away, think of this:

It's a security alarm system that you probably already have and requires no installation. Test it. It will go off from most everywhere inside your house and will keep honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the key fob chain. It works if you park in your driveway or garage If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break in your house, odds are the burglar rapist won't stick around... after a few seconds all the neighbors will be looking out their windows to see who is out there and sure enough the criminal won't want that. And remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking lot. The alarm can work the same way there.....
This is something that should really be shared with everyone. Maybe it could save a life or a sexual abuse crime.

Hope you all have a great week and I will be back later...
Hugs,
Debi :)

I have been tagged!!

I have been tagged by Barb! So, now it's my turn to play!!

You must post the rules before you give your answers. You must list one fact about yourself for each letter of your middle name. Each fact must begin with that letter. If you don't have a middle name, just use your maiden name. After you've been tagged, you need to up-date your blog with your middle name and answers. At the end of your post, you need to tag one person for each letter of your middle name. (Be sure to leave them a comment telling them they've been tagged and need to read your blog for details).

My middle name is Lynn.

L- Loving
Y - young at heart
N - naughty ;)
N - Nice

Ok, so now I have to tag 4 people. I will tag Dawn.

Well, unfortunately, I do not know 4 people with blogs, so I guess I will just tag Dawn. Thanks. :O)

Rainy Days and Mondays...

Hey again,
Today is raining. So far this year we have had some rain to get the area back to "normal" then we had some fabulous weather, nice and sunny and comfortable. But, alas, all good things must come to an end...it is raining today and will probably be all week. Oh well....

I have been involved in a few projects. I found out about a group that does afghans for returning service people that are wounded and recovering. They mainly distribute to Walter Reed Hospital but do go to a few others as well. I have so far knitted 2 rectangles for this charity and have more to go. I had to get "manly" yarn the other day. Never having bought manly yarn before, I had to consult several of my co-workers to make sure the yarn I got was "manly" enough and not to frufru... I love to do things for charity, especially our service people.

The kids are finally back in school today!!! (Doing the major mom happy dance!!) The four older kids had ski week off last week. Rah. It was nice not having to get up at 6:30 every morning. On Friday and Monday, my youngest also was off, so I actually got to sleep in....I made sure of this by closing the bedroom door and making sure my "labbie alarm clock" did not come in at 6:30 to wake me up! I love my labbies, but I also love my sleep.

I have made some progress on the baby sweater. I am very excited, I think it will be nice for the baby. I also got a 5 pound yarn skein of yellow to make a blanket for the baby as well. My dh's only comment was did I really have to super-size my yarn???

I am still working on my socks. I will be posting pictures soon, just to show that I really am working on them, and all the other projects as well!

So, stay dry and have a sparkling day!!!

Valentine's Day

Hey everyone hope you all had a great Valentine's Day! Has everyone come down from the sugar high yet??? My Valentine's Day was one of the nicest ones we have had in a while. Nothing spectacular just a good day! My dh came home and brought me flowers and chocolate.

Beautiful pink roses....and of course, my all time favorite, Peanut M&M's!!!

How great is that! We went to dinner with a few of the kids, Chinese food (again one of my favorites) then we just had a great evening as a family! How great is that! Like I said, it was one of the best Valentine's Days we have had in a while. I throughly enjoyed this evening.

Hope everyone had a great Valentine's Day and that you spent the day with the people who mean the most to you!
Hugs,
Debi :)

My how time has flown...

Well, it has been a bit since I have written. Sorry things have been crazy around here. After the crushing blow of the Patriots not winning the Super bowl, I had to re-group! It was a fabulous game and as usual, the commercials provided great entertainment!

I have begun knitting some baby things for a new baby in my dh's office. Since noone is sure whether or not it's a boy or a girl, I am going fairly neutral. I have started a sweater out of white baby yarn and time permitting, will add other items.

I have actually started my first pair of socks, on two circular needles!!! I am sooooo proud!!! They are really pretty, when I get a bit further, i will post an in progress picture. The hardest part is working with the thinner yarn. I have to get used to holding on to "air". :O)

We are still planning on leaving California and moving to Virginia in the summer. DH will be going to Alexandria next month to do house hunting and getting acquainted with Coast Guard Headquarters and the area. Hopefully he will find us a house. We would really love to buy our own house, but may end up waiting for a few months to check things out.

Four of my children are out of school next week for "Ski Week". Yes, they do ski in Northern California. My youngest does not have the week off, but on the up side for her, she does get out two weeks earlier than the High School kids. She is happy about this!

Well, that's about all for now. I spend alot of time on Ravelry. You can find me as craftymom5 and feel free to contact me or drop a line. I have joined several groups and am always looking for more. It's amazing the things I have learned and the people I have met.

So, until next time.

Knitting, kintting, knitting

Well, I have been knitting, knitting and knitting. I have about 4 projects on the needles as we speak. I have totally fallen in love with dishcloths and spend alot, and I do mean ALOT of time on the web looking for groups, patterns, KALs, etc...I believe the word they use is addicted!! Now if only I could be addicted to more productive things....oh well.

I somehow got it in my head to make my dh a bowling towel...So, I found a pattern for a bowling dishcloth, go figure, and am working on that now. I will be lengthing it to make it the size of a towel for his bowling ball The things we do for love. :O).

This cloth is supposed to be mouse, I knitted it on the needle size that was recommended but next time I will use a smaller size. :O( Oh well, it is cute if you are up close and personal with it.

This dishcloth was a KAL in "Rachael's knitting room". She does one about once a month. It's supposed to be lattice hearts...again, I think next time I will be using smaller needles....remember this is a learning process....

Last but not lease, I had to share this picture of Belle (labby) and Shadow (kitty). We got Shadow and her brother, Roscoe, from the grocery store. A little girl was outside the store and was trying to get rid of her kittens. She told me she was going to turn them lose if noone took them....humm not a good idea. So, of course, I brought them home. Anyway, Shadow was still young and the runt of the litter so she was "adopted" by Belle when she she was a kitten. Now, Shadow and Belle have a special relationship. Here, Shadow is licking Belle's head.

I am enjoying myself way too much on Ravelry. I am not sure how many groups I have joined, but I keep finding new groups to join. One of my more recent ones is a group dedicated to making shelter animals blankets and toys and such. I am so behind this that I already downloaded and printed a pattern to use. I am going to try to get a few done before we leave for Virginia. The shelter animals always pull at my heart strings. I wish I had the room to adpot them all. Everyone needs a loving, safe home to belong to....

Well, that's about it for now. When I get the ball towel done, I will be taking some pictures. I have to go and get kids now. So, until next time.

Wheew! Superbowl Bound!!!

Hi Everyone!

Well today my favorite football team won and will be going to to the SuperBowl!!!

How cool is that!!!!! I have taken the day off of work and have already instructed the children that I am NOT leaving the house all day...any place they want to go they will have to get their own rides!! Momma is loving the football!!

I have been knitting my fingers to the bone, ok, not really but it sure feels that way! I have completed 3 more dishcloths....I am up to a total of 4!!! Whooah, slow down there speedy!!!
Here you go:

#2
This is one that I made from a pattern I had.

#3
This one if from the weekly dishcloth KAL on Ravelry

#4
This is the 2nd KAL from the monthly dishcloth KA L on Ravelry.

I think I am getting the hang of this dishcloth thing!! I am excited. The next pattern I am going to tackle for a dishcloth has a few cables in it. Since I have never done cables, I am excited to try!

I wanted to show a picture of one of my kitties. He is pr obably my favorite of the bunch and he is so loveable and hugable. His name is Lucky and he loves to get his picture taken. He will actually pose for the camera. No, I am not kidding!

Lucky was helping me knit my dishcloths while we were watching the games today. He will put himself in my lap and lay on my directions. Hummm do you think he is trying to tell me something? Oh well. Hope you all have a great week.
Until next time.

Just another day in paradise

Hello again,

Well yesterday I was FINALLY invited to join Ravelry!! I am sooooooo excited. It is a very cool site and I am loving being on there. I am reading and meeting people from all over. I especially love all the different groups that you can join...could be the beginning of trouble??

Last night at bowling, DH had a great night..I love it when he has a great night, then he is in a good mood at home! :O) (Just kidding honey!!) His team bowled against the unpopular team and his team did really well. Whew!

This week I started my spring semester at school and I am taking contemporary American history. Not to bad. The instructor is a self admitted geek who knows nothing of contemporary trends and such. Oh well, as long as he can teach history, I am not too concerned. I already have my first quiz in the class on Tuesday!

I uploaded a picture to show you all what I look like.

No Barb, I am NOT the one in the middle, though I do see a strong family resemblance!! I don't have a good picture of me with my BFM (best friend mouse aka MICKEY) to share, hopefully next time I will get me some good mouse action! ;)

Well, that's about all for now. I have to go and read my history and knit some dishcloths..sounds like a full day!

Until next time.

Happy Anniversary to Me!

Well, yesterday DH and I celebrated our 5th Anniversay! And they said it wouldn't last! :O) We had a nice quite day at home with the kids and then a great dinner to end the evening!

DH spent part of the day working on my laptop, last year's anniversary gift, it seems the hard drive is not working. Humm he has tried to fix it for a few days now. It may end up in the closet again if he can't fix it. :O(.

All the furbabies are curled up on my bed, they all sleep together so well. Too bad when they are all awake they like to taunt each other.

Don't they look like angels? They are: from left front to right front: Lucky, Rosco, Belle and Buddy. Just for your information, they are on my queen size bed...Shadow and Princess are missing. I am sure they will be along shortly!
So, until next time...
~d.

Some of my fur babies

I thought I would introduce you to some of my fur babies. They are an important part of my life and I want to share some of their great pictures.

This is Roscoe, he is checking his mail at this moment. He likes to help me when I am knitting and feels he should sit in my lap and help with the knitting process.

The yellow lab is my Offical Lab Assistant...Belle. She is my constant companion. She is always helping in all my projects.

Crafty Day

Today it was raining again. As the song goes, It never rains in southern California, (becuase it always rains in northern California!) Anyway, Barb came over and we did a few things on the computer and then headed down to the sewing machines and had some fun sewing. She made a really cute tote bag and I made this cute little purse. It is big enough to hold my wallet, pocket calendar, essentials. I really like it. I am going to make a few more with some different material. This material is a canvas type material.

I also made some knitting markers for myself. I think they are really pretty and just wanted to add something nice to my knitting. If I am going to spend the time knitting something, the least I can do is use some nice markers with my projects.

Tonite Gray's Anatomy is back on and I am psyched! I am such a Gray's addict!! I will be working on my sweater or maybe a new dishcloth or even another pair of leg warmers while I watch the show.....

My Football

Here is my first dishcloth! It is part of the KAL and I took the 24 dishcloth challange! Not too bad if I do say so myself! I am loving this! So, all I need to do is weave in the ends and then it is ready to go! One of my sons asked me if we could only look at it or actually use it.....well, I think this one can actually be used!! Just wanted to post a picture. More later.

Lists

Last night was an intesting night to say the least. I have a huge list of stuff to do and only got one thing done. Talk about crazy! I have a habit of making lists and trying to get at least one thing accomplished off the list. When this happens, I feel that I have not only accomplished something productive but I have kept myself on track. Well, after last night, I say phooey to lists!!! We have lists for shopping, lists for projects, lists for tasks, lists for supplies, lists for our children, lists to avoid, lists for our lists....so I ask you, is it all worth it?? I live by the list. I have such a hard time remembering things that I need to make lots of lists..at any given time, I have several steno pads with lists going on both, not to mention sticky notes on my computer screen and various scribblings all over the house. Do you think I am an organized person? No, why? I can' find my lists!

I have signed up on my KAL site to do a 24 challenge...do all 24 KAL's for the year...this is something I SHOULD be able to do...what do you think?? I have started another dishcloth just to try another pattern. I am loving doing the dishcloths..they are quick, easy, and instant gratification is a good thing!

The sweater, well I haven't touched the needles since I have discovered dishcloths...I also have a set of leg warmers on another set of needles...humm maybe I should get my butt moving and get some knitting done. I'll be sure to put it on my list!

Until next time...

Yea!!! The kids are back to school!!

Don't get me wrong, I love my children, all five of them, but there comes a time what a mom has to get excited about school and today was one of those days! Today was the first day back since the holidays, and it was a great day for mom! I made their lunches happily and sent them on their way...wow, the whole house to myself....what will I do with my time???? Not to worry, I am sure I will find something to do!!!! ;)

We had a horrific storm on Friday (12/5). We lost power for approximately 2 days, ok we only lost abou 40% power and we had to water, we have a well with an electric pump. So, finally we got water early Sunday morning, like around midnight, and that was a good thing!!! For showers on Saturday, we all went to my dh's office and used the shower there....yes, all 7 of us....talk about family bonding!! We were getting ready to rinse out the old milk jugs to get some water for the dogs and so we could flush the toilet!! That was the worst part, not being about to flush....

Well, I finished my first knit along from my new favorite web site and I am very proud of my self to say the least! I went to take a picture but the batteries on my camera were dead...so that will have to wait for Friday... (payday).

I must send a public thank you to Barb for my new header! Pretty spiffy, huh??? She sent this to me and I really love it! Thanks alot Barb...I had to have my dh show me how to put it on my blog, but hey, maybe I can add things next time. I am not the most computer savy person in the world. To be honest, my 17 year old son had to show me how to delete pictures from my cell phone....yes, I am the butt of many jokes in my house...technologically savy I am not!! :)

I have added several new balls of cotton yarn to my ever growing stash...I am hooked on this knitting thing. The sweater is moving along. I am almost finished with the first page of directions and that means almost done with the back of the sweater! I am pretty proud of myself...Not bad for someone who was all thumbs about 18 months ago!

My quest of trying to be healthier is going ok. Last night we went to the Olive Garden for dinner, we are an imposing group to show up anywhere, we had my oldest son's girlfriend along as well, and the waitress had to have 3 people bring out our food. Hummm. They have a new policy that any party of 8 or more, an automatic gratuity of 18% is added to your bill. Whew, one problem off my mind!!!! Anyway, for my dinner, I had salad and soup! Yea me!! It was kinda hard, but not really. I love salad but I also love pasta...but I was good!! So, 7 days into the year, I am trying to stay on track.

Barb is coming over on Thursday and we are going to do some sewing. I believe we are working on tote bags that day. I made myself a new knitting bag the other day, I will post a picture soon. (Remember, I need new batteries). It has a few tweaks I put in for me, and now that I know what I what and what has worked so far, I will work the tweaks in a bit better...each bag is an adventure, and I don't think I will ever have the ultimate knitting/tote bag. I also think we are going to try to make a "project bag". I love a challenge and this could be one, but then maybe not. I will keep you posted (as if you were really worried) :O)

Well, I am off to the shower, ahh the sounds of silence!!! I can actually take a longer shower and get a few personal things done. Too much fun for one person..... :O) So, until next time....

Knitting and stuff

Here are pictures of two of the gauntlets that I made for my girls. DD2 got the pink ones and DD1 got the green ones. So, what do you think??? Pretty good for my first try?? I am proud of them myself. Yes, I know my entry is a bit weird, I am learning how to put pictures and such in the blog....

This is my new find! It is a yahoo group that does dishcloth knit alongs twice a month! I just joined and am in the beginning of my first knit along!! It is sent in the mystery project way- 8 lines a day until the project is done, so the final result is a surprise! I am excited to start this and had to go and get a set of straight needles today (darn the luck) to do the knitting. Humm maybe if I get comfortable with these patterns, I can actually get my holiday knitting off to an early start!! Humm stay tuned to see if I can actually do this! Please check out this yahoo group. They seem to be nice people and I am always interested in learning new thing!!

Barb and I went shopping on Sunday, what a fun time that was! We fondled the Alpaca yarn for a long long, long time but alas, we did not buy any...I have had a light bulb moment though.....since the Alpaca yarn is on the higher priced side but oh soooooo lucious and wonderful feeling.....(I spent many moments bonding with the Alpaca) I was thinking of getting a skein and making a scarf or something for my gifts next year...tell me honestly, who in their right mind, would NOT like an actual Alpaca or Cashmere knitting scarf or gloves, etc. So, that is my light bulb moment...I am hoping that in Virginia there are many local knitting stores...I love the internet alot, but remember to support your local yarn store for they are the ones to go to when you have questions... :O)
Anyway, that's about all for now, I have to start my new knit along and do my first dishcloth!! :O) I will post pictures when I am done.
Until next time...
Hugs,
Debi :)

Happy New Year

Hello again,

Well it is December 30 and almost midnight on the west coast! Wow 2007 is almost gone. Can you remember the important points of your year?

2007 was a year to be remembered in our house. Our oldest child entered his Senior year of high school. I went back to school and back to work, and love every minute of it. We lost my DH's mom sad to say and we found out we were moving to Virginia in the summer of 2008. Yes, 2007 will be a year to be remembered.

Christmas in our house was great. The kids were spoiled as usual and everyone was happy with their gifts. I recieved some great things this year. I got the new Twisted Peppermint line from Bath and Body works, a wonderful fluffy robe from Bath and Body works, Gift cards for Joanns, Starbucks, Walmart, and my local knitting shop, coffee sampler and new headphones for my Ipod.

Yesterday, Barb and I went to our knitting shop to spend our gift cards. I got 4 skeins of yarn and two patterns. I am so excited to try new things. I am in the process of knitting myself a coat sweater, throwback from the '80's. It is super easy just time consuming! I am excited and will post a picture when I am done.

The kids all go back to school next Monday, then I get my house back. It has been great having them all home but they are all at the age where they all need to be somewhere else at the same time. Humm running in 5 different directions at the same time is rather tricky but it is do-able. :).

Looking ahead to 2008 I have set a few goals..I try not to use "resolutions" as I feel goals are much more user friendly! I am going to strive to be a more "green" person. I feel that we need to reuse and recycle as much as possible so I am going to try very hard to do my part. I am also going to try to be much more self sufficent. I would love to grow my own vegetables, fruits and such as much as possible. I am not talking about raising a cow in the back yard, just try to do as much for myself as posible.

This year for the holidays, I was actually able to make all my gifts. I am planning on continuing this tradition yearly. I love to make things and am already planning for the next season.

I am also setting a goal of becoming a better and more understanding and patient person. There are many times when I find myself feeling that the person or situation I am with is just not right and I am looking for a way out. I am working to be a better friend and person all the way through. Some people and situations are aweful and we don't really want to be there, but we must deal with what is given to use and learn from it.

We are having a quiet night at home tonite with the family. So from our house to yours, please have a great, safe and blessed New Year.

Hugs,
Debi :)
